Membrane Excitability and Reproductive Biology

Organized by
Polina Lishko (Washington University in St. Louis)
Sarah England (Washington University in St. Louis)

Celia Santi (Washington University in St. Louis)

2–6 September 2026
Marine Biological Laboratory, Woods Hole, MA

Since 1946, one of the principal activities of SGP has been the organization of an annual meeting dedicated to an emerging topic of broad physiological significance. The 2026 SGP Annual Meeting will be the first ever SGP meeting to focus on the important topic of reproductive systems and disorders in both men and women. This meeting will include presenters focused on defining pathways and identifying targets and treatments for reproductive diseases. Reproductive problems in men and women include infertility, sexual dysfunction, adverse pregnancy outcomes, and overall health challenges in all decades of life. Major hurdles in this field include a limited understanding of mechanisms underlying reproductive processes, and few scientific meetings focused on reproduction. As the title of the meeting indicates, this SGP meeting will integrate various aspects of reproductive research, from molecules to medicine, bringing together experts in membrane proteins involved in ion transport, their structure and biophysics, drug discovery, mechanistic processes, physiology, male and female reproduction, and novel technologies. With such a wide span of expertise, meeting attendees will be able to discuss timely and pivotal questions in the field. This meeting will be an outstanding opportunity to broaden the work done in the field of reproductive physiology to include translational research, spanning from cell and animal models to clinical investigations.
